Developing Critical thinking

This chapter equips prospective upper-primary (Classes VI–VIII) teachers with pedagogical tools to cultivate critical thinking in Social Science. Grounded in NCF 2005, NEP 2020, and CTET Paper 2 examination patterns, it explores criteria-based questioning, source scrutiny, multi-perspectivity, detection of bias and propaganda, open-ended discourse, and meta-cognitive reflection. Candidates learn how to transform rote memorization into reflective inquiry, evaluate historical narratives, unpack social structures, and avoid common test traps.
